Dr Cooke practised wholistic & integrative medicine since graduating from the UNSW in 1979. After training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, western herbalism, nutrition and Ayurveda, she founded the multidisciplinary clinic, Pymble Grove Health Centre in 1989, which still operates as a centre of excellence in integrative medicine on Sydneys Upper North Shore. In 2003 she opened The Modern Apothecary, herbal dispensary & teahouse, which is a unique concept in retail naturopathic services offering professional advice to customers in a natural pharmacy setting. Adjacent is her CAM practice, Health Alchemy, which houses a team of six CAM practitioners, along with her wholisitic and preventive medicine practice. In 2009 Giselle will take CAM to Macquarie St, Sydney, the bastion of conservative medicine, to create a centre of excellence in integrative medicine and rejuvenation, education and clinical research. Giselle is the author of two books and innumerable health articles. She appears monthly on a national ABC talkback radio program, She has lectured at universities and naturopathic colleges and delivered countless papers on CAM at national and international conferences. She is a strong proponent for alternative health care choices, hoping to one day make natural medicines more accessible and affordable for all Australians.

Prof Phelps is an Integrative GP, Founder of U Clinic, Health Writer, Speaker, Adjunct Prof -Sydney Uni, Faculty of Medicine Professor Kerryn Phelps is Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. In 2000 she was elected as the first female Federal President of the Australian Medical Association, serving a maximum term of three years. During her Presidency, Professor Phelps commissioned the AMAs first position statement on complementary medicine. A General Practitioner for 25 years, she is Founder and Medical Director of uclinic Integrative Health Clinic, Surry Hills and Founder and Principal of Cooper Street Clinic in Double Bay. Prof Phelps is an Advisory Board Member of the Australian Integrative Medicine Association and the Journal of Complementary Medicine. She is a columnist for the Australian Womens Weekly and Medical Observer. She is co-author of a textbook of Integrative General Practice, due for publication in October 2009. Prof Phelps was a recipient of the Centenary of Federation Medal for services to Medicine and Australian society

Prof Silberstein is Chairman and CEO of Neuro-Insight Pty Ltd. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne in Neurophysiology and a BSc (Hon) majoring in Physics from Monash University. He was the head of the Dept. of Physics at Swinburne University (1985 - 1995) and the foundation director of the Brain Science Institute at Swinburne University (1996 - 2002). He is an Honorary Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Howard Florey Institute of Medical Physiology and serves on the Executive Board of the International Society for Brain Electromagnetic Topography and the Pan Pacific Conference for Brain Topography as well as the Editorial Board of Brain Topography. Professor Silberstein has over 30 years of neuroscience research experience and is the originator of SST brain imaging technology. He has published over 180 papers in the form of conferences presentations, journal articles and book chapters and is an invited or keynote speaker at various Australian and international scientific meetings.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

After graduating from the University of New South Wales medical school he embarked initially on a career in paediatric surgery and then neurosurgery, finally sub-specialising in paediatric neurosurgery. He was accepted at the Childrens Medical Center, Dallas, Texas for a fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery and was strongly encouraged to stay in the United States. Charlie is the only Australian neurosurgeon to be Board Certified in both Australia and America. He was rapidly promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas and developed an international reputation in the field of minimally invasive neurosurgery.

Charlie has been an invited speaker and Visiting Professor to almost every continent and over 35 countries, including such prestigious centres in the USA, as Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University, Albert Einstein University and the Barrow Neurological Institute, as well as Marbourg University in Germany.
Since returning to Australia, Charlie has continued to develop pioneering procedures and is invited back to the USA at least 4 times a year to teach courses in these keyhole approaches. Indeed, a fellowship program started by him in 2000 is now filled with overseas neurosurgeons until the year 2009, all thirsty to learn his innovative techniques.
In keeping with his passion for teaching and philanthropy, Charlie devotes 3 months of his holiday time each year to educate neurosurgeons from developing countries such as Peru and Vietnam, and to treat children with neurological conditions in those countries. At his own expense he has sponsored neurosurgeons from developing countries such as Bangladesh, Peru, Romania and Vietnam to attend practical courses and meetings. Charlie primarily works at the Prince of Wales Private Hospital and has established an internationally acclaimed centre specialising in the treatment of adult and childhood brain tumours. The techniques and skills that he offers at the Centre have saved or extended the lives of many children from Australia and abroad with so called "inoperable" brain tumours. These patients have come to Sydney from all over the world.
He is currently the Director of the Centre for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, President of Think First Australasia, established for the prevention of brain and spinal cord injuries, and a Founding Board Member of V.I.N.E. (volunteers for international neurosurgical education). He is the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board and Founder of the Cure for Life Foundation which has successfully raised over 2 million dollars and is the largest charity devoted to the advancement and treatment of patients with brain tumours.
Charlie has written over 70 publications and 30 book chapters. He has been featured on Australian Story (5 times!!), "60 Minutes", "Good Medicine" and "Today Tonight", highlighting patients with "inoperable" brain tumours that he has successfully removed.

Luis Vitetta is a Senior Research Fellow & A/Prof at the Uni QLD, School of Medicine. He is also Honorary Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Molecular Biology & Medicine at the Epworth Medical Centre in Melbourne. He is a Uni Melbourne graduate from the Dept Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, and has also studied medicine at the National University of La Plata Medical School in his native Argentina.

Dr Kouris has worked as a clinical nutritionist/dietitian for over 20 years and has a special interest in drug/nutrient/herb interactions - compiling a comprehensive list of over 400 drugs to be published in a textbook on Integrative Medicine (ed Kotsirilos, Sali and Vitetta) later this year. From 1988-2002 she was a nutrition scientist/lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine Monash University and from 2002-2006 was the managing editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Her publications include over 35 nutrition research papers; chapters to 2 university textbooks ( "Food & Nutrition" ed Wahlqvist, "Nutrition and Metabolism" ed Gibney) and numerous consultations/reports for Australian Government.

Janet is a Psychologist using an integrative counselling approach to explore the mind-body connection and enhance physical and psychological wellbeing. Janet specialises in counselling for people experiencing weight management issues, body image dissatisfaction and eating disorders. Janet is also a qualified Yoga and Meditation teacher and she incorporates aspects of these practices into her therapeutic work.

Michelle Graduated from Monash University (Victoria, Australia) in 1996. Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She is a current board member for AIMA and sits on the Integrative medicine joint working party with the RACGP.
She has postgraduate qualifications in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, Hypnotherapy and Traditional Vietnamese Acupuncture. These, along with studies in Yoga, Meditation and Buddhist Psychotherapy (India) and Harmonic Sound Therapy (Norway), are the constituent elements of Michelles holistic practice of medicine.
Michelle conducts her practice in a relaxed natural way; her patients are invited into their treatment. She considers the totality of a persons life, their diet, the environment and their stresses. She aims to provide each person with an appropriate and individual program so that they can return to their desired state of health. She does this by using a combination of diet, exercise, stress management, medicines, nutrients and counseling. Acupuncture and hypnotherapy are used where necessary.
