Nutrigenomics and Detoxification: identifying risk and susceptibility for chemical toxin sensitivities.

Speaker:  Dr Denise Furness.
Date: Tuesday, 12 June 2018
Time:  6.30pm - 9pm
Venue: BioCeuticals 85 O'Riordan St, Alexandria

Brief Description:   In today’s world, it’s impossible to escape the impact of environmental toxins. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, in our homes and our workplaces.  While our bodies are normally very efficient at dealing with  a considerable toxic load, we do have our limits. It’s important to recognise that the ability to detoxify varies from person to person, depending on the genes they inherit. We know  that certain gene variants, often referred to as SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms), can affect detoxification enzymes  and pathways, compromising our ability to effectively process  and remove a wide range of compounds. This event with Dr Denise Furness explores the key genes  associated with detoxification, including phase 1 (CYP 450 enzymes) and phase 2 pathways, as well as genes responsible  for endogenous antioxidant systems.
Denise is an amazing speaker whose talk at the recent AIMA Conference in NZ was extremely well received.

Dr Leila Masson, paediatrician, AIMA Board member and co-chair of the AIMA education committee will also be at the meeting to give a brief update on all of the exciting developments at AIMA.
